Glimpses of Class 2 Maths Chapter 5 Patterns

We see patterns everywhere around us. We see patterns in our clothes we wear or bed sheets on the bed or curtains in our homes or in the toys that we play, etc.

So what is the pattern? When figures, shapes, objects, designs, etc. are arranged in a particular order and they are repeated over and over again then they are called patterns. We must have seen different kinds of patterns in our daily life.

Let us look at the pattern below.

♦♥♠ —— ♦♥♠ —– ♦♥♠

    ↑               ⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯

This is a Pattern   this is repeated.

Maths is full of patterns. We find patterns in alphabets, numbers, shapes, etc.

Let us see one example

⚪ ⚪ 🖵 ⚪  What will come next?

What is the pattern? First a 🖵 then comes a circle ⚪ then again a 🖵 and a circle again ⚪.

So, next will object will be a square 🖵.

Number Patterns

We can make patterns in numbers also.

Ex: 10, 20, 30, 40, 50, 60…. In this pattern we are making a pattern of numbers that are in tens.

2, 4, 6, 8, 10, 12, 14…. In this pattern we are jumping two numbers ahead.

Importance of Patterns

Patterns are important for children in Class 2 because it develops the ability to recognize objects of the same shapes and sizes based on their observation. Observation and making predictions are very important skills in Maths. Through patterns, students can learn complex number concepts and numerical operations. Patterns also help children to understand relationships between numbers or letters and the concept of generalization.

Conclusion

Learning Patterns in Class 2 will help students to develop Mathematical and analytical skills. Students will be able to solve more complex number systems in future. The concept of patterns will also develop the ability of observation and then predicting. They will be able to learn to make logical conclusions.

This is a very essential skill required in Maths.
