Ans: Because my grandma is 80 years old and unable to accomplish all of these tasks on her own, I assist her in combing her hair and clipping her nails.

2. What kind of problems do people have in old age?

Ans: People get weak as they age and confront numerous challenges in their daily lives. They usually have joint pain, poor eyesight, and poor hearing. They also have difficulty chewing their food.

3. How does Ravi Bhaiya come to know so many things without seeing?

Ans:  Ravi bhaiya is blind, yet his other senses, such as hearing, touching, and smelling, are acute. By touch, smell, and sound, he can identify objects.

4. Have you ever needed a stick? When?

Ans: No, I’ve never had to use a walking stick to get around. 

5. Can you think when you may need a stick?  

Ans: If I acquire a fracture, strain my foot, or can’t see objects, I may require a stick.

6. How do we help those people who cannot see? 

Ans: We can assist folks who are blind in the following ways: 

  • We can give them improved educational and career options. 
  • In our schools and other buildings, we should provide handicapped-accessible staircases. 
  • We should be friendly to them and socialise with them. 
  • Because they can’t read body language, we should try to communicate with them verbally. 

7. Is there any member in your family who cannot see, speak or hear? Do you know any such person? How do people help them with their work?

Ans:  No one in my family is blind, deaf, or dumb.In my colony, there is one boy who is dumb. He makes use of a hearing aid. People can assist him by speaking to him loudly and clearly.

8. How many children could recognise the others by touching?  

Ans: Only one child was able to identify the other children by touching them.

9. How many children could recognise the other children by only hearing them?  

Ans: Only by hearing the other children, two children were able to recognise them.

10. Which was easier of the two?

Ans:Hearing others made it easier to recognise them.

11. Touch and tell how many teeth are there in your mouth? Which students in the class have the maximum number of teeth? 

Ans: This is a question that students should answer on their own.

12. How many things can you recognise by only touching? 

Ans: By simply touching glass, wall, pen, and my toys, I am able to identify them.

13. Close your eyes and listen. What sounds can you hear? Which people can you identify from the sound they make as they move?  

Ans: This is a question that students should answer on their own.

14. By just smelling, can you guess if it is someone close to you? 

Ans: Yes, I can recognise my mother just by smelling her.

NCERT Solutions for Class 3 EVS Chapter 13

The first part of NCERT Solutions for Class 3 EVS Chapter 13 is about a little girl, Seema who is very joyful all the time and loves sharing her daily news with two people after coming back from school. The first person whom Seema tells all her news is her grandmother. Her grandmother also waits for Seema from school. She is very old so she cannot see and hear properly because of age. Seema’s father reads the newspaper aloud to her every day. She does the rest of the work on her and she gets very upset if someone tries to help her. She is very fond of cutting vegetables even though she is not able to see properly. She thinks that these days people cannot cut vegetables properly. 

The second person with whom Seema shares all her news is her brother. His name is Ravi and he is very loving. He is always ready to answer all of her questions. He never says later. Ravi teaches in a college. The students of the college respect him a lot. Few students come home in the evening to learn from him. Ravi is very fond of listening to music and participating in the plays. He enjoys chatting with his friends and he also goes out with them. Whenever he goes out, he carries a white stick as his aid. He ly blind. Inside the house, he doesn’t need the stick but when he goes out he takes the stick with him. 

He likes to do all his chores himself and he gets very angry if anybody tries to help him against his wish. Some of his students take books from him and record the books on tape, which Ravi listens to. Ravi has many other books. These books have thick pages and have raised rows of raised dots. He runs his fingers through those dots to read. This kind of script is called Braille script and they are designed for the blind people to read. We learn more about this script in the next part. 

Sometimes, Seema troubles her brother by changing the position of the stick, which makes Ravi very angry. Ravi can easily understand the emotions of people around him whether they are happy or sad. He understands the emotions through their movement. When Seema came jumping to him to share the news, he understood that she was very happy. Seema told him that she was selected on the football team. Ravi patted her and asked her to be his coach. 

The second part of NCERT Solutions for Class 3 EVS Chapter 13 gives more information about Braille script. Braille script is a special way of reading and writing for blind people. The script is written on a thick paper by making a row of raised dots with a pointed tool. People who cannot see run their fingers on the raised dots to read. The script is based on six points. 

The Braille script was discovered by Louis Braille from France when he was three years old. Once while he was playing in childhood, he hurt his eye with a very sharp object due to which he lost his eyesight. He was very keen on studying and so he kept thinking of different ways of reading. He finally discovered a method of reading by touching and feeling. That is how the Braille script was invented.

Conclusion

So, we have learnt from this chapter how we should always respect others and feel good about them. We must help who are in need but with their permission. We should not think that they are disabled and try to help them. This behaviour of ours can hurt their sentiments. We need to be very sensitive towards aged people and visually challenged people.
