Class 3 Hindi Chapter 13 Mirch Ka Maza is a poem written by Ramdhari Singh Dinkar. In the first stanza of the poem, the poet narrates a story about a man named Kabuliwala that he hears from others. The poem describes Kabuliwala as a man who has never seen red chillies and at the sight of the gleaming red vegetable, his mouth watered. Therefore, he thought that red chillies were a seasonal fruit and that eating the new red vegetable would provide him immense strength. After much consideration and bargain, the Karbuliwala handed the Vegetable vendor his bag to fill with red chillies. After much satisfaction with his bargain, the Kabuliwala sits by the riverside to eat his bag of red chillies.
In the second stanza, the poet describes the repercussions suffered by Kabuliwala upon eating the red chills, where his face turned red and his tongue started burning due to the spice. As Kabuliwala was a man from Kabul, he refused to waste the money spent on the chillies and fought his ordeal by getting angry, wiping tears, crying and grinding his teeth. During his trauma, a soldier passed by and asked Kabuliwala to stop bothering himself by eating chillies, to which Kabuliwala reacted, asking the soldier to go away. He told the soldier that as a man of Kabul, he was bound to eat the chillies as he did not want to waste the money he had spent.
